Indonesia Reaffirms Myanmar Peace Push

(MENAFN) Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has renewed his country's pledge to advance inclusive and lasting peace in Myanmar, meeting with President Min Aung Hlaing in Naypyidaw in a visit covered by state-run media Tuesday.

Sugiono arrived carrying a direct message from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, conveying Jakarta's firm backing for initiatives aimed at ending Myanmar's protracted conflict and restoring national stability, according to the Antara news agency, citing Indonesia's Foreign Ministry.

"Indonesia is ready to cooperate with all stakeholders in Myanmar to resolve the conflict peacefully," Sugiono said, framing the visit as one of constructive engagement rather than external imposition.

The minister was emphatic that ownership of any resolution must remain with Myanmar itself, while also reiterating Jakarta's support for ASEAN's Five-Point Consensus — the regional bloc's established framework for navigating the crisis that erupted following Myanmar's military takeover in 2021.

On the sidelines, Sugiono held separate talks with Myanmar Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe, covering both bilateral and regional concerns. The two sides identified potential avenues for expanded cooperation across trade, education and people-to-people exchanges.

Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to sustained and constructive engagement with Myanmar as a fellow member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), pledging to work alongside regional partners in advancing peace and stability.

The Naypyidaw visit fits within a wider pattern of ASEAN diplomatic outreach. Foreign ministers from the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia have each made similar trips to Myanmar in recent months, reflecting a coordinated regional push to encourage dialogue and national reconciliation.
